Olympic Hats

It has been quite some time since my last post.. I have been quite busy with all sorts of things, but there was just nothing 'blog-worthy' to share..
One of the things I am occupied with, is watching the Olympics... Especially (ofcourse...) speedkating has my attention. Sochi 2014 is absolutely legendary, the results of 'Team NL' are out of this world!

Since the opening ceremonies, my eyes are drawn on the different team's  knitted and crochet hats, is it just me, or are the hats this year the best ever?

Last friday, mum and I went to the Handwerkbeurs, and on my wish list was yarn and hook for crocheting a hat! Not that a hat is going to be very useful now, as we hardly seen a winter in Holland this season, but I thought it to be fun to crochet a hat (first time)... so... I fell for My Boshi

... And crochet my first "BOSHI" in no time...

The label came with the yarn:

Het etiket kreeg ik bij het garen:

For this one I was inspired by the hat the Swedish Olympic team wore during the 2010 winter games:

.....More Boshi's to follow...

..... Meer Boshi's volgen....

Nightrun

Running, in a pitch-dark park, for fun? Indeed!

I laced up my running shoes for the last time in 2013 yesterday evening, to participate in a 5K fun run.
Geared with a headlamp from the goody-bag, me and about 150 runners went off..
Avoiding tree roots, branches, splish-splashing over muddy paths, I did not set my best of times, but had a lot of fun!

A little difficult to see, but there I am smiling, just behind the lady with the santa-hat and chrismas lights...

... and this is what my 2,5 month old shoes look like in daylight.. oops..

'Autumn Colors' ...Finished!

I finally managed to finish my autumn colors shawl! And.. I think I have enough (of knitting) scarfs / shawls for now....

I bought this Noro Taiyo Yarn to match my red leather jacket...

... which it does.
It also goes well with my parka:

... de sjaal past er goed bij.
Ook staat hij leuk bij mijn parka:

And it perfectly matches my Duffel as well!

Domestic (oh my) goddess

As it was my birthday last thursday I thought it would be nice to bake a cake to bring to work.
I thought one cake to be too short, so two cakes it was going to be.
A Carrotcake based on a recipe by Paul Hollywood (yep.. that "Great British Bake off" man). And a Rotweinkuche, which I rather refer to as 'Bridget Jones' Cake"; because of the chocolate and red wine (!!) that go into it. The recipe for this cake I got from a german colleague-and friend some years ago, and I have baked this one quite some times.
Somehow I always underestimate the amount of time that goes into baking.. Spend practically all sunday in the kitchen! But... very smitten with the results:

Here are both cakes cooling off., Bridget in the front, carrots in the back.

The Carrotcake Finished! With creamcheese icing and decorated with handmade marsipan carrots!!

The Bridget Jones' cake finished! With chocolate icing and colored sprinkles.

De Bridget Jones' cake klaar! Met chocolade glazuur en disco spikkels.

Autumn colours

Leaves from the Liquidambar tree at my allotment.

Last week mum and I went to the 'Breidagen' , a two day event dedicated to knitting and crochet.
The event was held in the beautiful Aa church in the city of Groningen.
I picked up two balls of Noro Taiyo... making a shawl again!

New Look!

No... nothing went wrong, you are on the correct blog.
I changed the template and am experimenting with the lay out.
What do you think of the new look?
