A doll from start to finish

This week I finished a doll I made for a special friend.
When I started the doll, I thought it would be nice to document the progress.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

First of all, I start off with winding wool into a very hard ball, this will become the doll's head.

Then, the ball goes into tricot tube, which I bind off very thight

After that, I take a very though yarn to make the eye-line and cheeks

From skin-coloure tricot I sew the part for the head and body and the limbs.

The head is put into the skin coloured tricot and the body and limbs are filled with wool.

I embroidered the eyes and mouth and sew all parts toghether by hand

Time to make the doll's hair. I crochet a wig from mohair.

Because this doll will have a special hair-do, I am creating buns by first making 'donuts' from felt and winding the mohair around them.

After sewing the wig and buns on the head, the doll is finished and in need of some underware...

By now I think you can tell this is becoming another Japanese-style doll...
So... time to pick out fabrics for the rest of her clothes. For her 'yukata' I am using original Japanese fabric (actually a cloth napkin)

... And here she is!

... En daar is ze dan!
